Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, or Pura Beratan, is one of the major water temple on Tabanan, Bali, Indonesia. The complex of the temple is located on the Lake Bratan lake sides in the mountains near Bedugul, the center of Bali. The water of Pura Beratan serves the entire paddy field in the region through traditional irrigation system called Subak. Pura Ulun Danu Beratan is so famous that the pictures of Pura Ulun Danu Beratan is used in 50.000 rupiahs denomination. Located 1.239 meters above sea level with a cool temperature around 18-22 degrees celsius combined with the beautiful landscape, this place is very comfortable and beautiful. Visiting Pura Ulun Danu Beratan, we can enjoy the unique temple and a beautiful natural scenery. Actually the Pura Ulun Danu is a complex of nine different temples, containing in total 285 shrines and pavilions dedicated to the gods and goddesses of water, agriculture, holy springs, art, and crafts.We can enjoy the beautiful atmosphere, cool, and clean air just after we arrived in the temple. After buying the ticket, then we will pass the decorated footpaths with flowers, grass, and pine tree to the main temple: Pura Ulun Danu Beratan. The best time to visit this temple is in the morning, while you can see beautiful sunrise reflected on the surface of the lake.
2. Don’t forget to see the statue of Dewi Danu
Built in 1633, this temple is used for offerings ceremony to the Balinese water, lake and river goddess Dewi Danu, due to the importance of Lake Bratan as a main source of irrigation in central Bali. The 11 stories of pelinggih meru (roof) dedicated for Shiva and Parvathi, the god and goddess of prosperity. We can also see Buddha statue inside this temple. Not far from the temple you can see also mosque that has been using by local Moslems to pray. What a great example of tolerance in Indonesia!

Lake Bratan is known as the Lake of Holy Mountain due to the history of this area, associated with Bali mythology and Hinduism.
3. Rent a boat and travel around the lake
We can also rent a traditional boat or motor boat to travel around the lake. It cost around 25.000 rupiahs for 25 minutes of trip. Also, for you who want to burn up your adrenaline, you can try several varieties of water games, like parasailing, banana boat, and jet-ski. Besides that, tourists can also fish on the lake shore, right under the lush bamboo near the lake shore. The fishing equipment can be rent for 20.000 rupiah a day. If want a jungle atmosphere with fruit, trees, and flowers, you can go to Kebun Raya Eka Karya (the Botanic Garden) that was located 300 meters from Lake Beratan.

4. Buy some souvenirs
In the temple area, we can find also several souvenirs like wooden sculpture, key chains, fruits, and also white cute Kintamani dog.

To enter Pura Ulun Danu area, we need to pay 10.000 rupiahs for adult and 7.500 rupiahs for the children. And for the foreigner, 30.000 rupiahs for adult and 15.000 rupiahs for children.
How to get there?
Ulun Danu Beratan is approximately 45 kilometers from the center of Tabanan, about 55 kilometers from Denpasar. To reach this temple, tourists can use public transport, such as taxis, buses, and travel agents that have route from Denpasar to Singaraja (in the north Bali). This temple is located on the border between Tabanan and Buleleng district, located on the edge of the main road, exactly at the shore of Lake Beratan.
